Duration | 5 weeks
Project type | Simple furniture
Year | Fall 2025
DESIGN GOALS
Create a sturdy piece of furniture
Incoporate woven fabric
Create a two seater bench
INITIAL INSPIRATION
Explored colors and shaker tape woven patterns that harmonized with cherry wood but was also playful and fun.
INITIAL CONCEPTS
INITIAL RENDOR AND LAYOUT
When creating my fusion model, I highly considered size by testing different pieces of furniture to ensure the right height and width. I used a wide variety of supports to ensure the piece was stable.
REFINED ORTHOGRAPHIC
Using illustrator this allowed me to quickly make final adjustments on my bench to ensure the right size and proportion.
SANDING AND FITTING PARTS
When ripping my parts I used dominios for play to dryfit everything together to ensure my measurements were correct. I then begin sanding parts of my bench. I seperated them into sections while gluing to ensure I could cover all surfaces.
WEAVING AND GLUE
The final steps to this were gluing and weaving. I used a simple pattern and wrapped it around the bench underside and ontop to ensure stability this created a 4 layer weave in the end which also looked nice if you flipped the bench upside down!
FINAL DESIGN
Finish bench and complete weaving for the final results!
