WOVEN
Duration | 5 weeks
Date | Fall 2025
Design Goals | My main goals were to create a simple piece of furniture that was structurally sound and could bear the weight of two people. I decided to pick a woven bench to add interest to the seating area, along with armrests on either side to allow for user comfort.
A COMFY TWO SEATER
Overall, my inspiration for this project was very Scandinavian and whimsical. I aimed for a richer wood with a white cream fabric to pair with it.
FORM INSPIRATION
My first forms I focused on just had a little side table attached to the bench, along with experimenting with a floating bench idea as well. However, I ended up landing on a simple bench with two armrests for user comfort. The ideation stage of this project was relatively fast.
FORM EXPOLORATION
I modeled a quick idea of how exactly my bench would be supported and laid out, this helped me when milling and assembling to ensure my dominos were in the correct place.
QUICK FUSION RENDOR
My final orthographic allowed me to communicate the standard, width and height. I made fine tunings to the proportion of the bench. This also presented where the supports would be located to my peers.
FINAL DRAWING
During the building process, I milled, planed, sanded, joined, dominoed, and glued my wood. I had 2 armrests, 4 identical legs, 4 aprons, and a support beam running through the bottom middle to ensure the legs didn’t cave on each other. Assembling was the most fun part!
