WOVEN
Project Duration | 5 weeks
Project Date | Fall 2025
Design Goals | My driving goals were to create a simple piece of furniture that was structurally sound and could bear the weight of two people. A woven bench was appropriate to add interest to the seating area, along with armrests on either side to allow for user comfort.
The driving forms for this simple funiture project consisted of warm ambiant lighting, warm, earthy wood, and textured patterns for visual interest.
DRIVING INSPIRATION
Include Patterned Fabric
Simple
Sturdy
Initially, the first forms focused on having a side table attached to the bench, along with experimenting with a floating bench idea. However, I ended up landing on a simple bench with two armrests for user comfort. The ideation stage of this project was relatively fast.
FORM EXPOLORATION
QUICK ILLUSTRATION
Procreate allowed for a quick iteration to communicate materiality and final branding of the simple funiture project.
The Final orthographic allowed clear communication of the standard, width, and height. I made fine-tunings to the proportion of the bench. This also helped convey where the supports would be located for my peers.
FINAL DRAWING
During the building process, I milled, planed, sanded, joined, dominoed, and glued my wood. I had 2 armrests, 4 identical legs, 4 aprons, and a support beam running through the bottom middle to ensure the legs didn’t cave on each other. Assembling was the most fun part!
