DESIGN TARGET

My Design goal ultimately for this project was to create a safe space for the northern cardinal. I began to find that this bird is also known as the Ohio state bird and likes more open spaces rather than enclosed spaces with small holes like traditional houses Typically Cardinals like to spend time away from humans, and are pretty territorial. With this information this really encouraged me to made a avian feeder!

CREATING AN INVITING ATMOSPHERE

Standard feeders aren’t colorful mainly because birds are used to a natural color palette, however cardinals are attracted to colors such as red blue and green. I took this information and tried to develop the best of both worlds to create an inviting and safe environment for my target audience

FINAL DIGITIAL

During this aspect I was really focused on what kind of wood I was going with or if I wanted to stain my wood. Each type of woods durability was heavily considered as some woods uphold much better than others, I ended up choosing a wood called bubinga which had African origins. I also had to really take into consideration how the bird would react to the different pieces of color plastic, The selection of plastic was evaluated, focusing on aesthetic integration.

During my Cross section exercise this really helped me envision the internal structure which shows how each and every component would fit together, as well as communication. While furthering my career this showed me an insight on design intent to manufactures or even engineers.
